EfficiencyOne’s White Paper 2050: Net-Zero Carbon Nova Scotia was written in collaboration with Ralph Torrie of Torrie Smith Associates and outlines the challenges and opportunities facing the province as it continues to focus on emissions reductions.

The White Paper outlines five strategic pathways to help overcome the challenges, and seize on the opportunities, in responding to the climate emergency: energy efficiency and decarbonization; partnerships, collaboration, and training; innovative financing and private investment; equity; and regional capacity building.

Remote Energy Assessments for Residential Homes: A Comparison to Traditional On-site Assessments in Nova Scotia

For many Nova Scotia homeowners, the journey toward improved energy efficiency begins with a home energy assessment. Traditionally, these assessments have been conducted in person using the EnerGuide Rating System (ERS), a comprehensive and standardized approach to evaluating a home's energy performance. In recent years, however, remote assessment methods, also known as virtual, digital, or touchless assessments, have emerged as an alternative option and are being explored other jurisdictions. The purpose of this paper is to provide a holistic review of remote assessments, and the circumstances under which they should be used, based on the data collected from two research pilots.

Deep Energy Retrofits in Nova Scotia

Writing this paper was a collaborative effort between EfficiencyOne and the Halifax Regional Municipality. It conducts a detailed analysis of Nova Scotian housing, commercial, and institutional building stock to assess the potential and challenges for an integrated, whole building approach to deep energy efficiency retrofits.

Energy Poverty and an Equitable Transition to a Net-zero Carbon Future in Nova Scotia

Energy prices are expected to increase as investments are made to lower greenhouse gas emissions. This will have a disproportionate and, in many cases, significant impact on households experiencing energy poverty.

This paper is about helping people. It is about assisting those experiencing energy poverty, those who struggle to pay their energy bills while maintaining a basic standard of living. The paper also recognizes the importance of equity in efforts to reduce energy poverty.
