EfficiencyOne Appoints Martha Casey as President and CEO

COO since 2024 and Interim leader since March will guide the future of Efficiency Nova Scotia and implementation of its 2027–2031 Demand Side Management plan

For immediate release

October 20, 2026 – Halifax/Kjipuktuk, NS – The Board of Directors of EfficiencyOne, the non-profit operator of Efficiency Nova Scotia, has appointed Martha Casey as President and CEO, effective Oct. 19, 2026. Casey has led the organization as Interim President and CEO since March 2026.

Casey joined EfficiencyOne as Chief Operating Officer in February 2024, bringing extensive executive strategic and operational leadership experience to the role. As President and CEO, Casey will also lead EfficiencyOne's two subsidiaries, serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact (HCi3) Fund and of EfficiencyOne Services.

The appointment provides continuity of excellent leadership as EfficiencyOne works with Nova Scotians to ensure our province continues to be a leader in transforming how people use energy to save money and achieve many other economic, environmental and social priorities. This will include the implementation of the 2027–2031 Demand Side Management (DSM) Plan for Nova Scotia’s electricity system, the five-year plan that outlines the energy-efficiency and demand response programs and services that will be available to Nova Scotians. Casey led EfficiencyOne's recent filing of the plan with the Nova Scotia Energy Board.

Before joining EfficiencyOne, Casey held an executive role with an international NGO focused on advancing climate, resources and economic sustainability. Before that, she was the CEO of Atlantic Canada’s largest innovation hub. Her earlier experience includes several years in leadership at Dalhousie University, and a range of change management and administrative roles for the City of New York. She holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University, a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Bishop's University.

Before making Casey’s appointment permanent, the Board, with support from an external human resources consulting firm, undertook a thorough process. It defined the leadership EfficiencyOne needs for the years ahead and assessed Casey against those needs, including her performance as Interim President and CEO and as COO.

“Martha is the best leader for EfficiencyOne and for this moment in Nova Scotia's energy future,” said William (Bill) Lahey, Chair of the EfficiencyOne Board of Directors. “She knows this organization, our partners and the energy opportunities and challenges facing Nova Scotians. We hired Martha as Chief Operating Officer with future leadership in mind, and as Interim President and CEO she has shown exactly why.”

Casey's priorities include making energy more affordable for Nova Scotians, supporting a reliable energy system, improving Nova Scotia's competitiveness and supporting a sustainable future. EfficiencyOne will also strengthen its provincial, regional and national leadership in energy efficiency, including supporting Canada's National Electricity Strategy.

“I am honoured to lead EfficiencyOne,” said Martha Casey, President and CEO. “Energy efficiency is one of the most practical ways to make life more affordable for Nova Scotians, strengthen our electricity system and grow our economy. I am grateful to our talented staff, our partners and our Board, and I look forward to building on our work here in Nova Scotia and contributing to solutions across Canada.”

EfficiencyOne delivers programs funded by ratepayers and by the provincial and federal government. These programs delivered by EfficiencyOne since 2011 are saving Nova Scotians $6.4 billion on lifetime energy bills, including more than $849 million for low-income households. EfficiencyOne will continue working closely with government, regulators, partners and the energy-efficiency industry, and investing in the skilled workforce Nova Scotia needs.
